Overview: The new Chamber design will involve creating an air tight internal environment inside the bioprinter. This will help to lower user contact with the bioprinter and help keep the internal environment sterile to allow for a sterile scaffold for the cells to adhere to. In addition, it will allow for better control of the temperature inside the chamber to allow the scaffold and cells to remain at physiological temperatures.

The chamber will be made using 3/8" thickness acrylic sheets for the four sides, the top, and the door of the chamber. The bottom of the chamber be made from a pre-existing 1/2" aluminum base plate which the printer currently rests on. Machining will be done to the baseplate cutting a channel around the perimeter of the of the baseplate to allow for the acrylic to fit firmly into the channel. An overlay hinge will be used with an overlaying door and compression latches will be used to close the door tightly shut. To ensure an air tight seal, a rubber bulb foam will be placed around the opening of the door.
